DAY 9: GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!

Google had the best April Fools prank ever! Imagine if you could be the ultimate Pokemon master in this world? Google hid 150 Pokemon in the latest version of Google maps. This brought up fun memories of my childhood of when Pokemon used to be the center of my world. This definitely brightened my day!

Gotta catch 'em all!

DAY 8: BYE HI (FOR NOW)

My last day in Hawaii was bittersweet. My flight was around noon, so I spent the day packing, running some last minute errands, eating my last poke bowl, and spending some time with my Popo. Even though this one of my shorter trips back home, it was one of the best. When I left Seattle, I was pretty depressed and was hoping that this trip would rejuvenated me. After this week, my mind is in a lot better place than before. I feel a lot more motivated and inspired to move on with my life. I'm finally ready to shed the past and look towards the future!

DAY 7: MW RESTAURANT

For my last night in Hawaii, I decided to go all out and indulge in the most epic dinner ever. MW Restaurant opened on Kapiolani last fall by two former chef's from Alan Wong's. Since then I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the place, which showcases some of the best Hawaiian cuisine there is. It's not the cheapest of dinners, but it is so so worth it. Good thing they just introduced a happy hour menu, because I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Hawaii. Now onto some food porn...

Ahi poke mandoo

Pickled local beets salad

Unagi and butterfish arancini

Mochi crusted opakapaka

Lava flow with coconut tapioca, haupia sorbet, shaved strawberries, and vodka kanten

Passion orange "creamsicle brulee" with lilikoi sorbet, ka'u orange custard, and orange kanten tapioca

DAY 6: CELEBRATIONS

It was my best friend's birthday today! Mel has been my closest friend since the ninth grade. Although we rarely see each other now because we live so far apart, when we are together it's like we've never been apart. For her 25th birthday, here are 25 tidbits about our friendship.

1) We met freshman year of high school when we both did cross country. I called her Melanie for the first few weeks of me knowing her.

2) We both share an obsession for reality TV shows such as Amazing Race, Top Chef, Survivor, etc.

3) Last fall she came to visit me in Seattle and we had a lot of cuddle sessions in my tiny twin size bed.

4) In high school, we used to go to the elementary school playground after school and challenge the little kids to a tether ball game. We were ruthless.

5) She's the only person I can talk on the phone with for an extended period of time. I have phone-phobia and usually hate talking for more than 5 minutes on the phone.

6) We used to always take songs like Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and make up our own versions of the lyrics. It literally made no sense at all, but always cracked us up.

7) One of my favorite memories was of us going to Disneyland our junior year going on all the rides together. We made the long time waiting in line pass by playing stupid games. We love Disneyland so much we went again for her birthday last year!

8) I love how Mel is never afraid to be herself. She sings out loud, she farts, she falls asleep at the most random times, and she weird (in the best way!). One of her favorite topics is talking about poop.

9) She's the best wing woman!  She's constantly trying to help me find that perfect one! Not all have been good for me, but I do appreciate the help. I remember one time at Ice Palace when we were 16, she went up to some random guy I thought was cute and asked him for his number for me because I was too shy. It's also good to know we have similar taste in guys.

10) She's the smartest, hottest and most kickass nurse I know!

11) One of our goals is to go on the Amazing Race together. We've always talked about our angle to get on the show. Since Asian girls and medical students has already been done, our mo say that we're hot lesbian lovers/BFFs.

12) She's the slowest eater I know, but it's because she's always talking. If we're ever going to be on the Amazing Race I'll have to do all the eating challenges.

13) One time we went hiking and saw one of those speed meters on the side of the road. We decided to run past it (a la The Office) to see how speedy we were. It was so funny and cars were driving by probably thinking we were idiots.

14) We used to play Neopets seriously in high school. We would go to the Yearbook room after school was over and play for hours. We were so nerdy.

15) When we were Seniors in high school, we both forced two Junior guy friends to take us to Junior Function, which is a formal. It was funny because both of our guy friends hooked up with these two other girls that they liked that night while Mel and I were off having our own fun.

16) Mel's nickname for me is Titty or TT and my nickname for her is Melk.

17) She love children and wants to adopt a child of every ethnicity. We also plan to have our children at the same time so that they are best friends too.

18) She used to work at a gelato store and always gave me free dessert when I came to visit. :)

19) We both did color guard together and hated it. We only had fun because we did it with each other and we got to perform in the Rose Bowl in California.

20) We LOVE hiking! Even though Mel is sometimes afraid of heights, she's always a trooper.

21) We're both the Chinese sisters we never had.

22) We never get mad at each other. I can't even think of one time we had an argument with each other.

23) We both prefer dogs over cats. Duhh.

24) Whenever I come home to visit, she always makes time to hang out with me. We've hung out at least four times and I've only been back for a week.

25) I LOVE MY BESTIE!

DAY 5: I RUN TO EAT

I woke up at the butt crack of dawn to drive my mother into town for work. Since Magic Island/Ala Moana Beach is close to her office I decided to head over and go running. It felt good to run next to the beach with that ocean breeze. If I were home more often, I would definitely come to the beach to exercise daily. I remember when I was training for the Great Aloha Run two years ago, I would come here with Clay to go running.

My home is so beautiful.

I went to Eat the Street later that night with Shane and Clay. It was so crowded from the last time I've been. The theme this month was Japan. I got an teriyaki okonomiyaki, sushi sliders, and an guava chiffon Ono Pop! We also got these mason jars of lemonade. I really just wanted to buy the jar because of it's design, but the lemonade was fresh squeezed and came in a variety of flavors such as lilikoi, strawberry, blackberry lavender, lychee, and pineapple. Afterwards we went back to Clay's apartment to chill for a bit. Home has been so good to me this week - I'm going to be so sad when I have to leave!

DAY 4: FOOD GALORE

Today was all about food. I went to lunch with Shane, Mel, and my parents at the Pig & the Lady which has been on my To Eat list for a while. I've only heard rave reviews about the place. I got a creamy horchata to drink and pho french dip banh mi to eat. It was incredible, but I was so full afterwards. It was nice to have my close friends eat with my family. My dad was complaining about the service and food the entire time, which was pretty funny and so very typical. Afterwards Shane, Mel and I went to Ala Moana to shop around a bit. I found a lot of stores I need to go back to before I leave. Later that night I met up with Kelsey, Shane and Jin and some of Jin's friends at Side Street Inn. I had barely seen Kelsey all break, so it was good to catch up. Afterwards we wanted to get dessert but Shokudo was too crowded, so sadly no honey toast. We went to Bambu instead and I got a taro coconut smoothie. It was really good! I think I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't so stuffed from eating all day though. They also had these fruit dessert cups that I want to try another time. All in all my stomach was very content at the end of the day.

DAY 3: HANAUMA BAY RIDGE TRAIL

Today was Prince Kuhio Day, which is a Hawaii state holiday. Mel, Aly, and Claire all had work off so we decided to go hiking in the morning. We went in search for the Rock Bridge at Hanauma Bay, which is a narrow rock ledge near the ocean. After a very confusing start we were able to find the trail and eventually made it down to the cliff side. The bridge was actually smaller than expected. The current was pretty strong so we decided not to chance standing on the bridge as huge waves crashed behind our backs. The sun was relentless that day, so we were dripping in sweat by the time we were done. Afterwards we went to Koko Marina and enjoyed some Bubbie's ice cream and Pa'ina Cafe poke bowls (again!).

It was a great day spent with just my girl friends. It was a nice just chatting about girl stuff I spend so much of my time around guys in Seattle, I miss that girl connection. As I've been getting older, I'm really started to cherish the friendships I have. It's so hard for me to find people that I connect with now that it's the people I've known the longest I want to hold on too as much as I can.

DAY 2: MACARON DELIGHTS

I finally got to try some of the macarons from La Tour Cafe. I love the bright colors. I ate a guava and blueberry cheesecake before heading to the beach for a bit. When I returned to the car the rest were half melted. But it was okay, because they were still delicious!

DAY 1: A GOOD START

Had a very relaxing day with one of my best guy friend's Shane at the beach. We stopped by Pa'ina Cafe to pick up some poke bowls and ice tea before a quick stroll to the beach across the street. We spent the next few hours just catching up and talking about music. I love how silly we can be with each other. After we were overloaded with some sun we went to Shirokiya to get some cold beers to cool off. It was probably one of the chillest days I've had in a while. Definitely a great start to the 100 Happy Days project!

#100HAPPYDAYS

Hello my dear blog. It's been quite a while since my last post. I don't like to make excuses, but I was going through a very depressing time in my life (which I'm still struggling through) that I didn't want to dump onto my blog. Things have slowly gotten better with time. I'm currently back in Hawaii on my spring break. The past few days has allowed me to recuperate and focus on all the things that make me happy which leads to my next agenda...

I've been sparked to revive this blog with a challenge of sorts. It's called the 100 Happy Days project. I noticed that I tend to focus on the negative aspects on my life, which is what makes me feel so down all the time. I know I have so much going on for me currently to be grateful for, that I feel like rubbish for being so negative all the time. It affects how I treat others and I noticed I get jealous of other people being so happy. I realize to achieve happiness you need to work for it and I've been in a downward spiral of bleakness. So starting today and the next 99 days after, I'm going to post a picture of something that has made me happy. No matter how big or small it is, as long as it allows me to reflect that maybe the day wasn't so bad after all, because there was this one thing that made me smile for just a moment.

So let's do this together. Ready... set ... let's be happy!
